Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Am I required to have a dining plan?

A: Students living in WVU residence halls are required to purchase one of the residential dining plans. All other students are not required to have a plan but may purchase any dining plan if desired.

Q: How do I decide which plan is right for me?

A: Think about how many meals you eat on a normal day. Here are some general recommendations for residential dining plans:

  • Go 10 – Great for students who cook some meals or don’t eat three meals a day.
  • Go 13 – A good option for students who eat fewer meals some days or are away from campus most weekends.
  • Go Anytime (default plan) – Best for students who eat most meals on campus, enjoy snacking between classes or want the flexibility to eat anytime. This plan offers unlimited meals each day and week.

Q: How do I purchase a dining plan?

A: Before a new semester begins, visit mymountaineercard.wvu.edu, select “Purchase Dining Plan” and follow the instructions.

Q: If I have already purchased a dining plan, can I change it?

A: Yes, as long as the change deadline hasn’t passed. Visit mymountaineercard.wvu.edu or contact us to make changes.

Q: Can I add more meal swipes or Dining Dollars to my dining plan?

A: You can’t add additional meal swipes to an existing plan. However, you can request to add more Dining Dollars by contacting WVU Hospitality Group.

If you have a non-residential plan and use up all your balances, you can purchase another Prime or Dining Dollars-only plan. You can also add Mountie Bounty to your account if you are running low.

Q: Where can I use my dining plan, and how do I pay?

A: This depends on the type of dining plan you have. In general, you can use meal swipes at the dining halls (Café Evansdale, Hatfields and Summit Café) and Dining Dollars at any WVU Hospitality Group location.

Meal swipes and Dining Dollars are loaded onto your WVU ID card, so just tap your WVU ID card at the register to pay.

Q: When do weekly meal swipe balances reset?

A: If you have a plan with weekly swipe limits (like Go 10 or Go 13), your swipes reset every Saturday morning. Be sure to use them before they expire each week.

Q: Can I take food from the dining halls to go?

A: Yes. All dining halls offer takeout containers.

Q: How are swipes defined and limited?

A: Each swipe equals one meal or one entry into a residential dining hall. Go 10 and Go 13 plans have a limited number of swipes per week. Go Anytime allows unlimited use but requires 15 minutes between swipes.

Q: Can I share meal swipes with friends?

A: No. Meal swipes are non-transferable and can only be used by the student who purchased the plan.

Q: What are Dining Dollars?

A: Dining Dollars are tax-free funds included with some dining plans. They can be used at all WVU Hospitality Group locations, including retail locations.

Q: Do Dining Dollars roll over?

A: Dining Dollars roll over to the spring semester with the purchase of a spring dining plan, but expire at the end of the academic year.

Q: What is Mountie Bounty?

A: Mountie Bounty is a pre-paid amount loaded onto your WVU ID card. You can use Mountie Bounty at all WVU Hospitality Group locations and off-campus partners like CVS, IHOP, Sheetz and more. Mountie Bounty rolls over every semester and is refundable upon graduation. For more information, visit the Mountaineer Card and Mountie Bounty FAQ.

Q: What are the differences between Dining Dollars and Mountie Bounty?

A: Dining Dollars are included with certain dining plans, can be used only at WVU Hospitality Group locations on campus and expire at the end of the school year.

Mountie Bounty is optional, works on and off campus, rolls over semester to semester and can be refunded when you graduate.

Q: Where can I check my balances?

A: Sign in to mymountaineercard.wvu.edu, or view your balance on receipts at checkout.

Q: If I withdraw from WVU, can I get a refund for my dining plan?

A: If a student officially withdraws from the University (drops all classes) and completes the required forms and procedures, the unused portion of their dining plan fees will be refunded in accordance with University guidelines. View the Dining Plan Withdrawal Policy for complete details.
